Let me start by saying that radio sucking in the Triangle is nothing new. I’ve always heard how great WQDR was back in the day but they’d already switched to a country format when we got here.

WRDU was supposed to be the hot station in town but frankly they sounded like the top station in every city I’d ever lived in and my musical tastes are more, ummmm, eclectic. So I listened to 96.1 (known at the time as Y96) which at the time was playing Alternative. In 1994, while we were at First Night they switched call signs to WKIX and their format to country and became KIX96.1

It’s weird getting out of the car hanging out for a few hours and getting back in the car and having a country station on. I spent a few minutes trying to figure out what the fuck was going on with the radio and then figured out what had happened.

Then there was another long period of radio sucking in the Triangle because the only thing left was 106.1 WRDU. This was supposedly the golden age of RDU but for me those for years represented everything that was wrong with Triangle radio. I mean, seriously, how the fuck many time a day do you need to hear Freebird or Stairway to Heaven.

Then in February 1998, 96.1 was raised from the dead as WBBB and played serious hardcore music: NIN, Manson, Tool (Tool on commercial radio, who ever heard of such a thing?) For me, the best of Triangle radio happened between 1998 and 2006. For whatever reason, in 2006 they decided to switch to the format either already vacated by RDU or about to be. Earlier this year, I knew WBBB’s death was complete when everybody started pissing all over themselves about Bob the Blade coming back. Here’s the thing, though, Bob the Blade was a fucking loser when he was at RDU and could have stayed in whatever hole he slunk off to when he left RDU.

Now mornings are full of Salt and Demetry the Greek. Salt is a bitch that doesn’t ever do anything but whine. Demtetry seems ok but he still works for a station that sucks. The other day Salt was making fun of the band Hoobastank. Apparently he doesn’t know in it’s better days that’s what BBB played. The’ve stolen a bunch of clips from Homestar Runner that they use on their show without attributing them. In fact, Salt told Demetry the other day he couldn’t do email without the secret phrase (which is a stolen clip from Strong Bad I also find it amusing they use Tool and Hollywood Undead clips on their show but their station never plays either one.

Anyway, most of the time it doesn’t bother me because I have XM in my car but not in my truck so I either have to make sure my ipod is charged of sully myself with the shit that passes for music on 96.1
